when a convention was to be held in your city and it was believed there weren't enough hotel rooms available or at least affordable ones, the witnesses living in that city were asked to go out into the territory and ask people if they had a room or rooms someone attending the convention could use.

i could never bring myself (14 or 15) to do this....it just seemed too weird for a kid to go to a house and ask the householder for a room but many kids in the hall did this.
Yep! I used to canvass for rooms and stayed in quite a few. When I was a callow young lad of 17 I stayed with an attractive young women in her twenties. Her husband was working away at the time.
In the morning she brought me coffee and sat on the bed and talked. The next thing she is trying to get in the bed with me. I can't imagine what she was after? It's the only time I ever wrestled with an angel!

i've observed quite a few posts and comments here about religious intolerance toward gay men and women (i'm quoting), the terror and murder of homosexuals instigated by christians.
the religion i was raised in was in agreement with the bible based view that alternative lifestyles are immoral but they never instigated any hateful rhetoric toward gay men or women.
Generally I avoid commenting on gay threads as I am a virgin in this regard. I have a number of gay friends. They are sensitive, kind and accepting. One of then is 'married' to a vicar. He conducted a small private ceremony for them.
I would choose their company any day, over the sexually frustrated, egotistical, reward seeking, self righteous, bigoted, apostle Paul. Deep breath.
It must be remembered that many women are gay or bisexual. I have known married woman who are gay. They married because they wanted children and security but have special female friends. I have a rather liberal view of it all. As far as I know we only have one life and we must be true to our selves and our nature. If we deny that, what do we have?

Thank you for your comments and your efforts to help me see the error of my ways. You are decent people who try to share what you believe with each other and been kind enough to share it with me. To me truth is not negotiable; it has to be consistent.
It makes no real difference to me what you believe, or what you base it on. If it helps you enjoy your lives I wish you well. I think it best that I leave you debate amongst yourselves for a while and come to the conclusions that you want to. I would not want to be the cause of you losing something that you value.

For non believers death is the end. Jesus taught that believers would be transformed into heavenly glory at death.
If Jesus hasn't personal told you about eternal life, perhaps you should check your Bible.

You have referred to my "black or white" view of the bible a number of times. I left the JWs because I despised their Bible based, black or white attitude towards life. It did not suit me because in real life, I am not a black or white person.
The Bible is a "black and white" book. It teaches that you believe in God and his son and gain eternal life OR you don't and you die. It really is that simple. There is no third colour(color) If there is a third alternative please inform me.
My view is that whether you believe in a God or not, you will die anyway. You have chosen the comfort of an illusion.

I think StoneWall has raised a very strong and fundamental topic. It seems to me that Christians have a really difficult time with these core issues and they would rather avoid them and think about the fluffy clouds of heaven and the personal relationship with the Lord, rather than focus on the fundamental problems of the Christian belief.
I agree with most of your comment including the one above. To the modern Christian Jesus is the Word. The bible is just a handy book to pick and choose from. What does not fit is dismissed as opinion. But in argument it suddenly becomes the final authority to quote from. The Holy Word of God. Switching between these two stances they are able to confound the infidel. They think!
I have been criticized for calling them 'modern' because they say the early Christians did not have a Bible. True but they had Christ to talk to. Then the Spirit inspired Paul to lay out what it was all really about. Some Christians do not agree with Paul and question the accuracy of translation with Jesus words. They rely on a personal relationship with Jesus who telepathically updates them. The Holy Bible is, it appears, no longer Holy.
I have for the moment given up trying to get straight answers from many modern Christians. They are sincere and pleasant people who wish the world to be a better place than it really is. I am happy for them but fail to see how the Bible supports their modern faith.

I have read the context. Paul is talking to his Brothers about faith. He explains that deliberate sinning, having accepted Christs sacrifice, is worse than breaking the law of Moses. To deliberately disobey Jesus results in death. Other scripture repeats this. It is a biblical theme.
Its in my bible, how about yours? I don't accept what he Bible says, because I am not a Christian.
